I've been plodding through N.T. Wright's Jesus & The Victory of God, savoring each and every page. In the first part of the book, he gives a sweeping treatment of the history of the study of Jesus, running from the Reformers to the Old Quest to the New Quest and on to the Third Quest, praising strengths and criticizing weaknesses of the various historical approaches to Jesus. He finds his niche within the Third Quest, and he devotes a considerable amount of time to laying out his position and his convictions regarding Jesus' mission and mindset. He reiterates a good deal of material from this book's prequel, The New Testament & The People of God, in order to set-the-stage for the voluminous part of the book: his historical proposition about the agenda, aims, methodology, and meaning of the crucified and risen Jesus of Nazareth.
