I am going through a rough time right now. I have recently learned that some of the friends I considered good have potentially turned on me and are spreading rumors and gossip through not only school, but Southwest and 412 as well. This really sickens me. It saddens me. How come deep friendships, true community, is so hard to find?

i don't know the situation first hand, but for me, i try not to put too much faith in people. i put my faith in God and pray that he will use those around me. your question: "How come deep friendships, true community, is so hard to find?" has an answer. we are human. we are fallen, and are naturally rebellious and self-centered. not only that but, not everyone wants what you call "deep friendships" and "true community" some people are perfectly happy in our public or social area of belonging. we cannot force or manipulate people into personal or intimate belonging. the for areas of belonging must be acknowledged and respected. once we understand them, we start to understand people a little more. I might recommend, "The search to belong" by joseph meyers. it is published by emergent ys and i think you might gain further insight by reading it.
thanks dude

I don't know the situation either although I did ask Zach about it and from what he told me I think you are dealing with jealousy Relationships at any level can be painful Lean on those friends and family you know you can trust and who will stand by you in these tough times I read the book Mike recommended and it does give you a good insight into the four levels of relationships
I'm praying hard for you tonight Anthony I hope tomorrow is a better day :)
I think gossip is one of the greatest pitfalls of Christians in this era. It is so easy to fall into, and it seems I have to dig myself out of the trenches once or twice a day, and keep reign on what rolls off my tongue. This means that we all need to watch closely, because the poison in gossip is not found in the words so much as the effects - hurt lives, bruished relationships, shame and contempt for one another.
